Well, that's just bad. :-( Won't see him in a game until 2008.

Bayern and Germany star Marcell Jansen will be out of action until the New Year after undergoing surgery on Friday morning. The player faces many weeks of conditioning and rehab training following the operation, performed by renowned specialist Professor Dr. Ludwig Seebauer at Bogenhausen hospital.

After an examination and scan, Bayern chief medical officer Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt sent Jansen for surgery to repair a torn anterior ligament in the left-sided utility man’s right ankle. The exact length of the 22-year-old’s enforced spell on the sidelines is not yet clear. He will initially be in plaster for three weeks, before embarking on a special three-week treatment programme.

Training ground incident

Jansen turned his right ankle while blocking a Roberto Hilbert shot in training with the Germany squad on Thursday. The injury was taped at the training ground before the 22-year-old was examined at a nearby hospital, where doctors diagnosed the torn ligament. With his ankle in plaster, the left-footed player made his way back to Munich, where Dr Müller-Wohlfahrt opted for a surgical repair.

The player’s long lay-off creates another headache for Ottmar Hitzfeld, who is also without the suspended Lucio for the remainder of the first half of the campaign. Former Monchengladbach youth Jansen has started 14 competitive matches for Bayern since switching to Munich in the summer, but the earliest possible date for his next appearance will be early February when the Bundesliga programme resumes after the winter break.

Oh no, that's horrible. Poor Marcell! The national team seemed to be able to compensate it well, but I'm a bit worried about Bayern... Recover soon, Marcell!

Oh no, Marcell! One of the few reasons why I don't hate Bayern, and now he's out. :(

That's really sad. I hope he can play again when the second round starts. It's already hard to get a place in the team by now... and now he has to recover. Will be hard... but I'm optimistic. ^^
